The 74HC595D is an 8-bit shift register and latch that operates at high speed using silicon gate C2MOS technology. It achieves fast operation similar to LSTTL but with low power consumption. The device consists of an 8-bit shift register and a storage register. The shift operation occurs when the SCK input transitions to a positive voltage. The contents of the shift register are loaded into the storage register when the RCK input transitions to a positive voltage. The parallel outputs can remain stable during the shift operation because the RCK and SCK signals are independent. The 3-state parallel outputs can be directly connected to an 8-bit bus. This register is suitable for applications such as serial-to-parallel conversion and data receivers. All inputs have protection circuits to prevent damage from static discharge or excessive voltage.
